Message from the Commissioner |
THE FUTURE is where mankind puts all the efforts and hopes of today. The promise of tomorrow allows all of us to constantly challenge ourselves in order to make a better world for generations to come. But it is high time we alter this belief. Let us not wait for tomorrow to come to us before we do something. Rather, we must make it happen today. The future is now. Recognizing and maximizing the full potentials of the telecommunications sector in the country is what first step we should all take to realize this new vision. the National Telecommunications Commission, as our government's foremost agency regulating the telecommunications industry in the country, believes that it is indeed in telecommunications, together with other media such as Broadcast, Radio and the Internet, that all other sectors will thrive now and in the years to come. The current administration of the NTC has set its eyes on a new role to make our dream of becoming at par with our foreign counterparts a reality: to foster and encourage the transition of the communications industry from a regulated to a fully competitive environment. The NTC believes that it is in competition that the communications industry will achieve a formidable status. Let these five key goals inspire us as we move towards a competitive environment: (1) To establish a better, pro-competitive interconnection standards for telecommunications technologies; (2) To deregulate communications services, that ensure fair rules of competition, where consumers can choose the best combination of price, service and quality for their needs; (3) To protect consumers, to make sure that their interest is not compromised, as we move towards a competitive marketplace and encourage wider entry; (4) To promote efficient use of the electromagnetic spectrum to develop products that consumers want; and, (5) To catch up with the world leaders in telecommunications in terms of regulation and riform by following the standards set by advanced nations for promoting open and competitive markets. As we take each step towards a competitive environment, let us not forget whom we are dedicating all our efforts to the consumers. It is our foremost responsibility to offer them the best that the world of cutting-edge communications technologies can offer. It is our commitment to further introduce and educate them to the latest innovations while ensuring that their rights are not overlooked in the process. In all these, your utmost cooperation is highly needed. Let us work together to improve the state of communications of our country. Each step that we take now promises a big leap towards building a Commission for the present millennium and subsequently, in achieving a strong republic. Let our efforts for today make the promises of the future a current reality for all of us. Let this vision guide us as we celebrate NTC's 24th year and for succeeding anniversaries to come. Congratulations and Mabuhay! |
